Season 19: The Stories Between Us
season nineteen
season nineteen
For 250 years, America has been a story still being written. A story of dreams and divisions, triumphs and struggles, communities finding their way forward together. This season, we invite you to gather around stories that explore who we are, where we've been, and who we might become. Through laughter, music, mystery, and unforgettable human connection, Season 19 celebrates the voices that challenge us, inspire us, and remind us that every generation has the opportunity to write the next chapter.

The Taming
by Lauren Gunderson
directed by Austene Van
Tweetering, panda shrews, and undying giddiness for James Madison – what else could you expect to find at a Miss America pageant? In this hilarious, raucous, all-female “power-play” inspired by Shakespeare‘s Shrew, contestant Katherine has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one senator‘s aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause. Well, that and a semi-historically-accurate ether trip. Here‘s lookin‘ at you, America.

Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol (MULA)
by Tom Mula
directed by TBD
In this fast-paced one person comedy, witness Jacob Marley like you've never seen him before! What happens to Ebenezer Scrooge’s mean, sour, pruney old business partner after the original story ends? Chained and shackled, Jacob Marley is condemned to a hellish eternity. He’s even given his own private tormentor: a malicious little hell-sprite who thoroughly enjoys his work. Desperate, Marley accepts his one chance to free himself: to escape his own chains, he must first redeem Scrooge.
So begins a journey of laughter and terror, redemption and renewal, during which Scrooge’s heart, indeed, is opened, but not before Marley – in this irreverent, funny and deeply moving story – discovers his own.

Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson - Apt 2B.
by Kate Hamill
directed by Kelli Foster Warder
An irreverent, darkly comic, modern take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth and sidekick. This fast-paced romp re-examines the world’s most famous detective story with a bold new feminist lens. In this highly theatrical, small-cast escapade, oddball female roommates Sherlock (yes, it’s also a girl’s name—wait, is it a girl’s name? Is it even a name?) Holmes & Joan Watson join forces to emerge from pandemic fog as a deeply codependent, quasi-dysfunctional Odd Couple adventure duo—solving mysteries and kicking butts, until they come face to face with a villain who seems to have all of the answers.
