About the Playwright
A dynamic 3-time GRAMMY-winning artist, Jamecia "Mecie" Bennett is a powerhouse singer, songwriter, actress, producer, and vocal arranger. With a career spanning collaborations with legends like Sting, Janet Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Aretha Franklin, she has cemented her place as a versatile and accomplished talent.
As the lead vocalist for the Grammy Award-winning Sounds of Blackness, Mecie wrote and produced their hit single Fly Again. She has also toured globally, earned platinum and gold albums, and contributed to soundtracks for films like Jason’s Lyric and Kazaam.
A celebrated actress in the Twin Cities, Mecie has starred in productions such as The Color Purple, Marie and Rosetta, RENT, and Black Nativity. She continues to shine on stage while exploring the blues circuit with her soulful single Holiday Blues, inspired by icons like Koko Taylor and Rosetta Tharpe.
As CEO of Minnesota Movement ENT, Mecie mentors emerging talent through artist development, vocal coaching, and management consulting, leaving a lasting impact on the music and entertainment industries.
